Frédéric Leblond, Ing., MSc, PhD.

Founder & Chief Science and Innovation Officer (CSIO), Reveal Life Science

Professor Frédéric Leblond is a world-renowned scientist, innovator, and entrepreneur at the forefront of optical sensing, artificial intelligence, and machine-learning-driven analysis of spectral data for cancer surgery and diagnostics. He is the co-founder and Chief Science and Innovation Officer (CSIO) of Reveal Life Science, where he plays a central role in defining the company’s scientific vision, inventing its core technologies, and translating them into clinically impactful products.

Professor Leblond is the co-inventor of the Sentry™ platform, developed in close collaboration with neurosurgeon Dr. Kevin Petrecca, a breakthrough technology enabling real-time, intraoperative detection of cancer using Raman spectroscopy. This invention represents a major advance in surgical oncology, allowing surgeons to distinguish malignant from healthy tissue with unprecedented accuracy directly in the operating room.

In addition to Sentry™, Professor Leblond is the initial architect and lead developer of Reveal’s Biofluid platform, laying the scientific and technological foundations for spectroscopic analysis of biofluids to support cancer detection and precision diagnostics. His contributions established the core system architecture, signal-processing framework, and AI-driven interpretation strategies that underpin Reveal Biofluid’s development.

A defining hallmark of Professor Leblond’s career is his internationally recognized expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning applied to complex spectral data, including Raman, fluorescence, hyperspectral, and multimodal optical signals. His work has set global benchmarks in real-time tissue classification, robust model generalization across patients and institutions, and the clinical deployment of AI-driven decision support systems in surgery.

Beyond Reveal Life Science, Professor Leblond is a prolific inventor and academic leader whose laboratory has pioneered numerous optical and spectroscopic technologies for image-guided surgery, biopsy guidance, and intraoperative tissue characterization. His research spans optical needle biopsy, quantitative fluorescence guidance, hyperspectral imaging of brain hemodynamics, and lab-on-a-chip systems for drug-response assessment, all with a strong focus on clinical translation.

Professor Leblond holds multiple patents, has authored a large body of highly cited scientific publications, and collaborates extensively with leading hospitals and surgical centers across North America. Through his combined academic and entrepreneurial leadership, he continues to shape the future of AI-enabled precision surgery and real-time cancer diagnostics.
